Wijnand's Wonderful Memorabilia

Station transmission log for advertisements and pre-recorded material dated Thursday 11th August, 1966, sent from Curzon Street Traffic Controller Geoff Pearson, to on-board Administrator, Richard ('Sally') Swainson.

Memos referring to problems with the Czarme perfume advert are noted on P2. A script, intended to be read out each time the pre-recorded commercial aired, had somehow gone missing for the entire week!

The Boat House a Kew was a live music venue.

The promo for 'Billy Smart's Circus Ball' was to feature in 'It's All Happening'. This was a sponsored segment of Ed Stewart's show. It went out each Friday between 1700 and 1800 and was a 'What's on in London' guide for trendy youngsters. It was during the 'It's All Happening' slot that Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band premiered in May 1967.

'Lots in a box, so shop, shop shop for Bassett's Jelly Babies, yeah, Jelly Babies!' sang the unknown band on the commercial when Bassett's Jelly Babies sponsored the Kenny Everett reports from what transpired to be the USA Beatles tour (see page 1).

The Fab Four's last show was in San Francisco, playing the Candlestick Park baseball stadium on August 28th. Why two Jelly Babies programmes were scheduled for August 30th and 31st, after the tour end, and then cancelled, is unknown.

Update 2014: Hans Knot has kindly sent the item below, dated 1978, from 'Monitor' magazine, about a visit to the Galaxy in Kiel. It appears to have been written by the friend who accompanied Wijnand. We attempted to forward the 'Monitor' feature to Wijnand for his comments, but have not had a response, which probably means that his email address has changed.
