Wijnand's Wonderful Memorabilia

Station transmission log for advertisements and pre-recorded material dated Monday 8th August, 1966, sent from Curzon Street Traffic Controller Geoff Pearson, to on-board Administrator, Richard ('Sally') Swainson.

The log accompanied various instructions, live-read scripts for S & H Pink Stamps, (see Mini-memories, P9) Horatio Myer hair products and Evette and Colgate-Palmolive toiletries.

Evette was the low-budget, own-brand range of make-up retailed by F W Woolworth stores and aimed at teenage girls. "Shimmer into summer" was the slogan for the (hopefully) sunny months, and one of the commercials featured a female voice singing the line,
"Shimmer into summer with value at your fingertips, get nail colours by Evette."

Commercials supplied pre-recorded on carts were for Guard-Stick deodorant, Goodwood Racing, Peter Stuyvesant cigarettes and Gordon Moore toothpaste.

Geoff reminds the Administrator that he ought to be returning the tapes of the sponsored Reveille Sound-Off shows to the office after transmission. (Reveille was a weekly newspaper). He goes on to have a gripe over the poor state of a consignment of previously-returned tapes, and asks for more durable packing material to be used. Recording material in 1966 was relatively expensive and these remarks imply that the tapes were recycled as often as possible, to save money.

Geoff also requested that ad-libbed plugs for the Coventry Air Pageant were to be inserted into programming as often as possible, until he could arrange some fixed slots.

Recorded sponsored, taped programmes accompanying this log were the Wrigley's Juicy Fruit Show (yes, an entire programme promoting chewing gum) and the religious The World Tomorrow, presented by Kenny Everett's nemesis, Garner Ted Armstrong.

As with the previously-featured station log (see Wijnand's Memorabilia, p4) Geoff used Radio London Club headed paper.

More items rescued from the Galaxy will be added as time permits.
