Richborough Pier 1915

Cross Channel Pier Gantry at Richborough, Postcard (1915)

The distinctive Pier Gantry was erected by the Inland Waters Transport Division of Army Royal Engineers in 1916 for movement of troops and materials to the waterways of France and Belgium in WWI

Originally sited at Richborough on the lower River Stour Estuary which flows into Pegwell Bay in Kent

Richborough Port's docking facilities were sold to to Great Eastern Railways and moved to Harwich for the Harwich - Zeebrugge Service in 1923
